Conservation and the Environment
Governor Chet Culver and Lt. Governor Patty Judge believe that protecting our land, lakes, rivers, and streams is an Iowa value. In office, both have spearheaded efforts to improve Iowa’s environment. Their efforts have made our land cleaner,
our air fresher, and our water clearer, and they will continue to do whatever they can to protect our state’s natural resources for future generations.
- Governor Culver funded the state’s Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) program at its highest level in 20 years.
- Governor Culver will invest $55 million for water quality improvements through I-JOBS.
- Thanks to Governor Culver’s leadership, Iowa is 2nd in the nation in wind energy, keeping millions of pounds of carbon dioxide out of our atmosphere.
- With the Iowa Power Fund, Iowa continues to lead the way in energy independence by discovering new technologies that reduce our use of fossil fuels.
- Under the I-JOBS program there is an additional $11.5 million to repair conservation structures destroyed by the 2008 floods, protecting valuable Iowa farmland and improving water quality.
