When the national economy began to slide into recession, rather than sit back and let the problems correct themselves, Governor Culver and Lt. Governor Judge got to work, creating a new initiative that would rebuild our communities while rebuilding our economy. The plan is simple. I-JOBS leverages existing state revenues and our outstanding AAA bond rating to create the jobs that hardworking Iowans deserve. And we do it all without raising your taxes.
When completed, the I-JOBS Initiative will invest $830 million in public works projects all across the state and create thousands of well-paying jobs, just when Iowans need them the most.
- $185 million – Investment in capital improvements in communities across the state
- $118.5 million – Investment in local infrastructure projects
- $115 million – Investment in Iowa’s regents universities, including $100 million for disaster recovery efforts at the University of Iowa
- $100 million – Investment in vertical infrastructure projects
- $115 million – Investment in transportation, such as road and bridge improvements
- $55 million – Investment in sewer upgrade and water improvement projects
- $46.5 million – Investment in targeted disaster recovery projects
- $35 million – Investment in housing projects
- $25 million – Investment in watershed and soil conservation improvements
- $25 million – Investment in broadband
- $10 million – Investment in renewable and alternative energy projects
