Robert D. Blue Scholarship Honoring Aaron Eilerts’ Spirit of Service

Aaron EilertsAaron Eilerts was a young man who exemplified Iowa’s spirit of service.  Aaron was a special Iowan, who tragically lost his life when a tornado struck the Little Sioux Boy Scout Camp on June 12, 2008.  Yet, during his 14 years of life, he touched countless Iowans through volunteering and giving back to his community.

Governor Chet Culver, in an effort to keep Aaron’s spirit of service alive, worked with the Iowa Centennial Memorial Commission to honor Aaron.  From Eagle Grove, Aaron lived in the same home town as Governor Robert D. Blue, and attended Governor Robert D. Blue Middle School.  The Commission believes that Aaron Eilerts exemplifies the type of applicant they are seeking for the Robert D. Blue Scholarship, and asks that all high school students who have dedicated themselves to serving their fellow Iowans apply for this award.

By honoring young Iowans who serve their state, Governor Culver and the Iowa Centennial Memorial Commission are keeping Aaron’s Spirit of Service alive for future generations.
