Governor Branstad and Director Debi Durham will discuss the trade mission to China, South Korea and Japan and the goal of encouraging trade and investment in Iowa and increasing Iowa exports.
Highlights of the trip include Governor Branstad’s scheduled meeting with Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping. Governor Branstad will also take part in the 43rd Annual Joint Meeting of the Midwest U.S. – Japan.
Their schedule in China includes visits to Chinese companies with investments in Iowa, those seeking investment in Iowa, as well as Iowa companies invested there. While in China, the governor has scheduled meetings with Chinese securities, banking and insurance regulatory officials to talk about the success and stability of those industries in Iowa.
The South Korea agenda includes efforts in support of the U.S. – South Korean Free Trade Agreement and meetings with companies interested in creating jobs in Iowa.
In Japan, the governor will meet with Governor Yokouchi of Yamanashi Prefecture, Iowa’s Japanese Sister State. Meetings are also planned with Japanese companies that seek greater trade with Iowa companies and could potentially invest in Iowa.
