January 1, 1970 12:00 am – January 1, 1970 12:00 am

Gov. Terry E. Branstad and Iowa Department on Aging Director Donna Harvey today announced Iowa Centenarians will be honored at the Centenarian Honors Celebration Luncheon on October 03, 2011.

To date, the U.S. Census Registry has approximated that there are 793 Iowans aged 100 years and older.  Of the 580 Iowans 100 years and older who are listed on the Iowa Department on Aging (IDA) Centenarian Registry, 85% are women and 15% are men.  The oldest Iowa citizen is 114 years of age and resides in Johnston.

“I am pleased to take part in the Department on Aging’s centenarian celebration luncheon,” said Branstad. “These Iowans have made our great state what it is today and all Iowans should look to these individuals as examples of how to live.”

The Centenarian Honors Celebration Luncheon will be held October 03, 2011 at the Iowa Historical Building Atrium, located at 600 E. Locust Street.

Director Harvey stated, “This is a special celebration for our treasured oldest Iowans, and we welcome those who wish to be a part of this exciting event to honor them.”

Seating is limited.  To find out more about this event or purchase a ticket to the luncheon, call the Iowa Department on Aging at: 515/725-3312, or toll-free: 800/532-3213 and ask for Machelle Shaffer.
