Governor’s office reveals new details for China Vice President Xi Jinping’s visit to Iowa

The office of Gov. Terry E. Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds have released new security and event details today regarding China Vice President Xi Jingping’s upcoming visit to Iowa.

Vice President Xi will hold events in Iowa on Wednesday, February 15. Reporters wishing to cover the events will need to request credentials to attend and follow the below security precautions if selected to cover the events.

  • NOTE: Credentials are non-transferable.
  • Form must be completed by Noon on February 9, 2012 NOTE: Credentials will not be available after this date.
  • Bring a media credential from your news outlet
  • Bring a government-issued photo ID

 

You will be notified via email if you have been selected to cover the events you register to attend.  Event credentials will be mailed to you prior to Feb. 15.

NOTE: If these security measures are not followed, the reporter will not be allowed into the events.

The following events will be open to credentialed media on Wednesday, February 15, 2012:

Late afternoon                 A reunion with individuals that Vice President Xi met when he visited Iowa in 1985 as a Hebei Province party official and director of the Feed Association of Shijiazhuang Prefecture. This reunion will take place in Muscatine, IA. Due to space constraints, there will be a video and print photography pool. Reporters will be able to cover portions of this reunion, but space is limited so please request credentials as soon as possible.

Evening                              A photo opportunity of Vice President Xi’s arrival via plane in Des Moines, IA. Reporters will have a staging area, and both a video and print photographer pool will be provided for close-up shots and cut-aways. Space is limited so please request credentials as soon as possible.

Night                                   Gov. Branstad and Lt. Gov. Reynolds host Vice President Xi for a photo opportunity in the governor’s formal office at the Iowa Capitol. NOTE: Reporters will have a staging area, and both a video and print photographer pool will be provided. Space is limited so please request credentials as soon as possible.

Night                                   Gov. Branstad and Lt. Gov. Reynolds host Vice President Xi for a welcome dinner in the Iowa Capitol. NOTE: Reporters will have a staging area, and both a video and print photographer pool will be provided. Space is limited so please request credentials as soon as possible.

Media will need separate credentials for each of these events.
