Iowa’s unemployment rate remained at 2.9 percent in January, according to new numbers released on Monday from Iowa Workforce Development. That’s down from 3.4 percent one year ago.

Manufacturing gained 1,300 jobs in January, mostly in durable goods. Other services added 800 jobs following losses in November and December.

The United States unemployment rate in January was 4.1 percent for the fourth straight month. Iowa currently has the fourth lowest unemployment rate in the nation, tied with Nebraska and Vermont.
