Today, Governor Kim Reynolds ordered all flags in Iowa to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to noon on Monday, May 26, 2025, in honor of Memorial Day and directed the National League of Families POW/MIA flag also be flown on the Capitol grounds for the entire day.

“This Memorial Day we remember our country’s heroes and are deeply humbled by the great debt they paid on our behalf,” Gov. Reynolds said. “We honor the brave men and women who have gone to battle and paid the ultimate price so we can live in a free nation. Kevin and I join with all Iowans as we reflect on the powerful reminder that our liberty can only be preserved through sacrifice and service.”

Flags will be at half-staff on the State Capitol Building and on flag displays on the Capitol Complex. Flags will also be at half-staff on all public buildings, grounds and facilities throughout the state.

Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
