Today, Governor Kim Reynolds ordered all flags in Iowa to be lowered to half-staff immediately until sunset on August 31, 2025, to remember the victims of the Annunciation Catholic Church and School shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Two children were killed and 17 people were injured as a shooter attacked while children were attending Mass at Annunciation Catholic Church to celebrate the first week of the school year.
Gov. Reynolds’ order is issued in conjunction with President Trump’s proclamation to lower the United States’ flag for the same amount of time.
“What occurred this morning at Annunciation Catholic Church and School in Minneapolis is unspeakably senseless violence against innocent and defenseless children,” Gov. Reynolds said. “Such evil acts have no place in our great nation. Kevin and I are both praying for the students, school staff, and law enforcement officers involved. Our thoughts are with the families whose loved ones were taken far too soon.”
Flags will be at half-staff on the State Capitol Building and on flag displays in the Capitol Complex. Flags will also be at half-staff on all public buildings, grounds and facilities throughout the state.
Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
