In 1861 & ‘62 in pioneer settlement Rippey IA, 32 students & recent students of the first school in Greene County, were led by their 2 teachers into service in Civil War. Eleven died in the war. No monuments were ever erected telling the story. Today’s students at Greene County High School are now erecting monuments, re-enacting the military unit & acting in school play about it. Adults helping.
